A Court of Thorns and Roses

Hello, guys! This is going to be my first book review! I am going to start with “A court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J. Maas. Honestly, I have read all of her books and absolutely love them all! But here is my review of this book!

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses #1) - Sarah J. Maas

Blurb:

Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ... Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

My Review:

Honestly, its a start of a new book series and I was a bit nervous! After reading the ToG series (review coming soon) I didn’t know if I could get into it! A Court of Thorns and Roses is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I grew up with the movie, so I wanted to see how the book differed and I LOVED IT!

At first, the book is slow moving because we are getting introduced to the characters, but then there is an “action” scene with Feyre’s family and a fae, which caught my interest because I wanted to know more! So I kept reading and found out it stayed true to the movie. There is a curse (dun dun dunnn) and I was actually surprised by the curse and what it did to them all.

I am no stranger to lovey Dovey books and relationships, but I wasn’t feeling Feyre and Tamlin’s relationship, due to him being controlling… I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but it was a weird sort of relationship. I know that under the circumstances they were in, at the end, he couldn’t do much, but when he had the chance to, he would much rather save his own skin. Then I found out Rhys existed, and yeah.. I fell for him. Cliche I know, but I mean come on, his persona was welcoming while also being very creepy. He was there for Feyre when no one else was! He stood by her in his own weird way and I thanked him for that (Don’t judge me)

Overall, some of the characters I didn’t like but understood why they were there and got me questioning what would happen if they weren’t there. I also loved some of the characters in this book because of their kind nature and wanting to help people.
