My Trip down Souq Waqif Wakra
A few weeks ago I and the family decided to take a trip down the Souq Waqif Wakra to get out the house. We have never been here before so it was a new experience for us all. I personally went in with the expectation of it being like Souq Waqif but I was pleasantly surprised by the differences.
The actual main part of the Souq was pretty much empty and you definitely had to look around for the shops. They were hiding in many different corners and were definitely hard to find! However, when we did find some shops they were mainly traditional shops selling traditional spices, sweets and other items. We didn't buy anything but we certainly enjoyed walking around the maze of a place!
When I say maze, I mean a maze! You could definitely get lost in there if you don't know where you are going but luckily no one got lost. However, it just makes it more of an adventure. You don't know what's around the corner!
I took some books with me so I could take some pictures for my blog/Instagram! (@theflickeringpages) Finding places to take photos was interesting and I took some unique photos.
The beach around the back also seemed like the perfect setting for "Lady Midnight" by Cassandra Clare. The beach definitely reminded me of some of my favourite scenes.
So we stayed there for a few hours and decided to get something to eat along the beach. We decided on burger and chips for everyone! Although we did try to look for Kebabs, however, no where was selling them when we wanted them! Blasphemy, I know.
Once the sun set, it turned into a beautiful night! The weather was nice and cool and it was definitely an amazing place to be walking. After food, we walked back up it right to the very bottom and enjoyed our walk. Then we decided it was time to go home and get some sleep! It was around 9 PM after all.
Walking around the area at night felt amazing! All the lights were on and it added an amazing ambient feeling to the area. The history they were trying to convey definitely got through because of the lighting. See? I told you lighting was important! No matter what the situation is! ahahaha
So after a long day walking and wandering through Souq Wakra, we went home! Considering I have been here all my life, I definitely treated that day like I was a tourist. So my advice to everyone is, go be a tourist for a day or two in your country. You never know what you are missing out on.
