Cramming for a Test

Firstly, let me start by saying that you should NEVER EVER cram for a test. However, procrastination does get the best of us sometimes and we end up hating ourselves for it. So here are so quick tips you could use if you are currently cramming for a test... or plan on cramming (raised eyebrow)

  1. Make every minute count. - No seriously.. you think I'm joking.. well I'm not. You need to use every minute before that test otherwise you might as well fail. Set a timer for 40-60 minutes and start looking at your notes and understanding the work. Then go for a 5 minutes break and start over. This is what I do if I end up cramming. However, if you can't concentrate for 40 minutes like me, then use the Pomodoro technique (25 minutes studying and a 5-minute break)

  2. If you think reading your notes/textbooks are boring and you can't focus, then teach someone else. Use your siblings! (Go ahead and torture them :D) Seriously, get them to sit in front of you and start talking about the subject. Get a whiteboard and sit them in front of it, and then start drawing formulas, diagrams and other things, so you can understand it and maybe your siblings can understand it as well!

  3. Talk to yourself. - Again, you think I'm having a laugh with you. (ahahahaha I'm not) If you read your notes out loud you might be able to remember it better. In my experience, if there was a general formula that I needed to remember for maths, I would keep saying it until I didn't forget it. Sometimes I would even add a tune to it and make into a song :D (please don't judge, I'm trying to pass as well :()

  4. Power naps. - Let's talk about this. I don't take naps because I have been trained since I was born to not sleep during the day (Thanks, mum) so I have no experience with naps. So I went and asked a few friends and they said it helps them study! They take a 20-minute nap after long study sessions because it helps them retain information. So if you like naps, make this a treat. So when you finish studying, you reward yourself with a nap! :D

  5. Do some exercise. - Yes, lets get rid of the stereotypical student - sleeps all day, eats all day and maybe even a few hours of studying between the schedule - and focus on the benefits of exercising. Not only does it keep you fit, but the endorphins that get released make you feel motivated and happy! Thus meaning you are going to study more and feel better while doing it. Everyone is also under the impression that you have to do hardcore exercise. NO YOU DON'T! (plus you have no time if you are cramming a day before!) You can go for a 10-minute walk around your area. Stand up and do 20 jumping jacks and get back to work. Run on the spot for 2 minutes. Anything that gets you moving is good! So no need for the gym when you are cramming!

  6. Study in the morning. Seriously, do it... - Don't wait until 10PM because you will be tired and nothing will stay with you. So wake up early (around 9.. shocking I know :0), get some breakfast and drink a glass of cold water and hit the books! Not only this but working in the morning means the family is still asleep and you can work without getting distracted!

These are just a few tips that I have tips that I have picked up while cramming for tests before. If you have any more tipcs comment down below or message me and I will put them in the blog post!

Thank you and enjoy cramming (please don't cram again!)
