Presentation Tips
These tips were given to me by teachers and some are from myself from experience. Let me know in the comments below how you deal with doing a presentation?
I wrote this post when I was doing my TOK (Theory of knowledge) presentation. However, you can also use these tips when you are doing your English IOP (Individual Oral Presentation) and any other presentations your school is making you do!
Nerves are unnecessary & counter-productive.
Be still – Avoid walking about – It will calm you.
Breathe – Again, deep breaths will calm you.
Take your time.
Pause for effect.
Make eye-contact with the camera/audience.
Use appropriate facial gestures.
Use appropriate hand gestures.
TALK; Don’t read!
Always face your audience – Don’t turn your back to read your presentation; a sideways glance is all you need.
Look professional (even if you’re scared out of your shoes!)
Don’t try to learn a script: it’s not a memory test.
Use your language skills for impact, emphasis & effect
Use a variety of tones, rhythms and speed of delivery.
Limit words per slide to a MAXIMUM of 30 – Nobody reads the small print.
Make sure your words are in stark contrast to your background – if they’re hard to see, nobody will read them.
Every picture tells a story – use diagrams, maps, charts, and graphs as appropriate.
Your slides should provide you with the prompts from which you can ELABORATE.
No cheesy grins! (There is no sympathy vote)
Don’t forget – Focus on specific details and evaluate various perspectives.
