My Review:
(TAD BIT SPOILER-ISH)
I picked this book up because the blurb sounded like someone taking their life back and it also sounded funny.I didn't expect Izzy to become invisible! It didn't even cross my mind until she woke up one morning and BAM! she was invisible... At first, I was like 'ugh this is going to be so bad and complicated' but boy was I WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS!!
The banter between Izzy and her best friend Tash was funny and I was giggling when she came into the dialogue. Not only that but Izzy took this opportunity to take her life into her own hands and be who she wants to be.
As cliche as this sounds and as much as I say this but I enjoy books that I can relate to. Izzy was definitely someone I could relate to with her 'invisibility'. I might seem like a really wonderful and chatty person but in reality, I keep to myself and I'm not confident to do half the things I want to do. There is also the fear of not being loved for who we are so we end up changing ourselves to fit the image of someone else. I wouldn't say it was a direct theme in this book but it was present in some aspects. I related to Izzy because she also stayed in a 'decent' job but didn't put any extra work in and she also stayed in a terrible relationship just because it was normal. She literally turned invisible after a night out but there are lots of people out there that are invisible to people they care. It's definitely a metaphor that a lot of readers have connected to.
I also got really invested in her development. Who doesn't want to see someone improve their lives and change whats wrong? Izzy got out of her terrible relationship with Max and got more from her job because being invisible means you have to do things to be noticed. Sometimes all it takes it getting ignored/being invisible for you to take over your life again.
The characters in this book were amazing and their roles only made me love the book even more. Tash is her best friend and is constantly talking about sex. hahaha I know it might be considered weird but in the long run is helped Izzy develop and get out of her shell. She also has some problems in her life and she confides in Izzy. She is seen as this strong person who doesn't have any problems with her relationship but Tash opened up and it was revealed that she does. It only goes to show that we put a face on to get through life and sometimes a little girl talk is needed to feel better. Alex was introduced from the start but he wasn't prominent int he story until about halfway. Izzy took an interest in Alex and since she was invisible he didn't notice at first. When he finds out he doesn't panic or run away! He simply tries to help Izzy with her goals which brings Alex and Izzy closer. o0o0o0o0o0o0o. Their relationship was funny and exciting.
I went into this book expecting laughs and entertainment and I got all of that but I also came out of it was a new found way of looking at friendship and my life. I decided that being 'invisible' is not the way of life and that I should be who I truly and really want to be. Which is now slowly in progress. Be aware that it won't happen overnight, so if you have any life goals make sure you keep working and don't get disheartened.
This is a pretty short review because I really don't want to say much about it because its something you have to love yourself. I'm planning on doing a re-read so I'll update this review with some more of my thoughts. I'll also get some more character reviews up!
I hope you all have a wonderful day/night and I'll see you next time.
