Air Awakens

Air Awakens - Elise Kova

Blurb: A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond...

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

My Review:

**Mild Spoilers

I have to say I thought this book would be boring but I was pleasantly surprised. The majority of reviews were also saying this book was really cliche and childish however I still read it. People were saying there was a love triangle but honestly.. I didn’t really see it. I’ll explain it later on! Overall lesson, don’t listen to other people’s reviews because everyone is different! I also read this book because the cover is AMAZING! I love the cover art!

I admit, this book is very YA cliché and it has all the factors.. plain girl meets bad boy prince and insta love happens. There is also a war/fight going on in the background and they can’t be together. Oh and there is also another boy in the picture. HOWEVER, the girl didn’t love him back. That, my friends is usually a love triangle however, in my opinion I don’t think it was. A love triangle to me when the girl has feelings for both of the guys.. However Vhalla didn’t feel anything but friendship towards Sareem. So that is why I don’t think it is a love triangle. However, there was insta love between Vhalla and Aldrik but honestly, I like Aldrik so I don’t mind ahahaha. (Basically all the males in the book are interested in Vhalla, but she doesn’t have any feelings towards all them.. only one.)

I was a little annoyed at 2 things.. It’s that this book doesn’t have a map.. well not that I could find one. I would have liked to see a map because I like visualising the world. Not only that but I wanted to see Fritz more. From what I seen of him he was an amazing character and I want to know more about him. He peaked my interest the moment he appeared in the book. I’m just a little disappointed and annoyed he didn’t have a bigger part in the book. However, there are still 3 more book to go so hopefully he will have a bigger part.

Another cliché part of the book would be towards the end when Vhalla can’t be bothered to brush her messy hair anymore. Instead of asking for help or taking her time, she cuts it so she can feel like a different person considering her destiny has changed. So that’s another YA cliché for you. I really don’t mind it because as a person with wavy and messy hair I would cut it as well if I was going into a life changing situation.

This review is honestly all over the place, but that is because I just can’t seem to find the words on why I really liked this book. I definitely think people who love YA should read this book because

  1. it has all the elements of a great YA book

  2. it’s an interesting storyline

Its also a great book for those who really liked the Grisha Trilogy. It has a similar characters and storyline.

Overall, I enjoyed the book despite what the majority of people are saying. Yes, its not the perfect YA with realistic storylines/characters but that is why it is called Fantasy right?

Sorry about this messy book review but like I said before I really can’t find the words to explain why I really liked this book. I did mention some things I was slightly annoyed about but other than that I enjoyed the plot, characters and the overall feel of the book.

Thanks for reading my rambling book review :D

See you guys in the next post! Have a lovely day/evening.
