Geekerella
Geekerella - Ashley Poston
Blurb: Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad's old costume, Elle's determined to win - unless her stepsisters get there first.Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons - before he was famous. Now they're nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake - until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

My Review:
The cover of this book is what drew me in. It’s super cute and bright. Not a lot of book covers are bright anymore and it may be a little depressing. Other than that, the blurb was also really cute. Who doesn’t want to read about a bunch of nerdy people! I’m low-key a nerd so I couldn’t wait to read this book!
I also have no idea what fandom this is “based” on but I am assuming it a Star Trek/Star Wars spin-off. Also, just throwing this is in but I am a Star Trek fan... Sorry!
This entire book is like a geeky/nerdy Cinderella spin-off and I LOVED it! Seriously, I loved how it played out and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cute simple read! There are quite a few story re-tellings of Cinderella but I think this book is by far the cutest one out there. Also, the word cute will be mentioned a lot in this review! Don’t judge me!
Okay, let’s talk about the characters. They were all AMAZING and I don’t mean that lightly. They were some seriously awesome characters. Elle, who is the main character and “Cinderella” in this book was an adorable and totally relatable. Darien who is the “Prince” in this book was awesome. Can I please have a real-life Darien... I would love him till the end of the world.. and in the next.
So, Elle really wants to go to ExcelsiCon because her father was the creator of it and she is a total geek about Starfield. Anyway, she can’t go because her step mum has jobs for her to do and her stepsisters are going to make sure she doesn’t leave the house. They make it their mission to make her life a living hell. Throughout the book, she develops as a really strong and independent female. I would love to have her as a friend! She evens stands up to her stepmother! She doesn’t like being pushed but she has had to deal with them since her father died.
On the other hand, she has met a wonderful person through a wrong text and they get along great. They both talk about Starfield and even name themselves characters in the movie. Little does she know that the boy on the other end of the phone is actually the main lead for the revamp of Starfield.
Which brings me to the next character... Darien. Darien is the lead in the Starfield revamp…Carmindor! No one likes him because he obviously isn’t the original Carmindor. I mean we have all been there... The actor who plays your favourite character in a TV show/movie will finish their contract/die so they end up bringing in a new actor. No one likes the new actor because he or she aren’t you favourite.. so he or she might end up ruining the show for you. Everyone was like this with Darien and even Darien had similar views since he is also a geek and loves Starfield. However, he continued on with the role and showed everyone that he was also an amazing lead! While the filming was going on he was talking to Elle! Little did he know that she was the hater behind the blog that was ruining his film career.
Both of these characters fell in love over the phone after months of talking. Before they know it, ExcelsiCon is here and they finally meet but not as the people they know each other as. Elle decides that she doesn’t like Darien without knowing that he is the one she has been talking to over the phone. Darien also doesn’t like Elle because they get off on the wrong foot at the start of the Con.
What happens between that moment and the moment they meet again is classic Cinderella. Her step mum takes everything off her and she has to go work somewhere she doesn’t want to. On the other hand, her sisters surprised me. In the original tale, both of the sisters are really mean and unsupportive, however, in this tale.. one of the sisters were really supportive and they wanted Elle to reach her goals. I won’t really say anything else about the sisters because I think you need to read it to understand why I love it so much!
The ending of this book was AMAZING and really loved cute. I loved how adorable it was. I will let you read the ending to experience it all!
Another thing about this book is how it showed the power of female friendship and fandom families. We are often told that if we are too invested in a fandom it means nothing and you are wasting your time but this book shows you that there is also family outside blood.
I would recommend this book anyone who wants a quick and cute read for summer. I read it in a few hours and I’m 100% positive you will love it.
See you all in the next review <3
